Mathematics Upskilling Learning Units
The Mathematics Upskilling Learning Units (or Math ULUs) is intended for individuals who wish to improve their mathematical proficiency by mastering foundational mathematical concepts and procedures that first-year mathematics requires.
The series of learning units consists of a collection of topics each addressing specific mathematical skills, including:
- Fractions
- Exponents
- Radicals
- Ratio, rate and proportion
- Timelines
- Algebraic processing
- Permutations and combinations
- Probability

Applications for undergraduate programmes for 2023 open on 6 April 2022 and close for South African candidates 30 September and International candidates on 1 September 2022.
The Mathematics Upskilling Learning Units form part of all Extended Degree Programme (EDP) Mathematics modules taken currently by EDP students in the faculties of Science and Economics and Management Sciences.
It is also strongly recommended for all first-year students who obtain a NSC Mathematics between 60% and 70% and for first-year Science and Economics and Management Sciences students who are registered for a mathematics module.
All prospective students in the faculties of Science and Economics and Management Sciences requiring a certain level of mathematics proficiency for their proposed studies are also welcome.
